A horse crazy girl and her supportive husband, the 79 Ranch stems from a life long dream of founder Jeanne Wilkie to breed, develop, and show horses that are not only beautiful, but also athletic enough to go do any discipline. Jeanne believes in the ideal of a horse that you can do anything on, from reining to cow work, to ranching and roping.
Jeanne Wilkie grew up hearing her mother talk about her horse adventures as a little girl. In kindergarten someone brought a pony to school for pictures and that was it, Jeanne had caught the horse bug herself. From them on Jeanne looked for every opportunity to be around horses that she could. As a sophmore in high school she was finally able to afford her own horse after working an after school job to pay for it. A bright chestnut stallion, Jeanne broke, trained and showed him herself. Wanting to compete in 4H Jeanne added a mare to her herd and ran barrels on her in 4H. She later bred her stallion to her mare, and thus her love for breeding horses was born. All through her young adult years Jeanne continued to ride and breed horses. Her children showed in the local 4H, and the other equine activities with their horses.
In 2000 Jeanne married Tom and thus the 79 Ranch was born. Tom has supported Jeanne in her equestrian pursuits, becoming a fan of the sport his wife loves. Tom can often be found sneaking HR Special Lil Whiz a treat, or videoing Jeanne from the sidelines. Together the pair look forward to growing the 79 Ranch program as they expand the ranch, located in Stephenville, Tx.
“And so we borrow from them their strength, their calm, their fire. That we may experience just a bit of the magic of horses."
